It was episode 41 where the idea of the t-shirts first came up, from my co-host and sister Joy. She wanted a coffee mug that said, “Just get over it and believe God,” and asked the listeners in the most light hearted of ways, to buy her one.
Then I said, well if you are already buying a coffee mug for Joy, buy one for me that says “Know Reckon Yield.” All in good fun…
Sure enough, two of our dear listeners bought us coffee mugs, just as we requested. But then we started talking about Timeless Gospel merch, for real. It was Joy and other listeners who whole heartedly supported the idea of creating merch. I was elated.
One of our listeners was kind enough to make the designs for us and work out all the details for our little merch shop, which we will be adding to as the podcast continues.
I was honored that the decision to make “Know Reckon Yield” (KRY) the first line of merch was unanimous.
Back to episode 41…
Joy and I decided an exclusive explanation of “Know Reckon Yield” would be helpful to the listeners. Larry weaves the three terms in many of his sermons, especially those from Romans 6. But Joy and I wanted KRY to have it’s own time to shine. We pray that our explanation, which you can listen to below, is decent.
Fast forward to last week, when I saw the listener at church adorned with her newly purchased KRY t-shirt. She said, “I need the elevator pitch for KRY.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well, what do I tell people KRY is when they see me wear this t-shirt,” she answered.
My first go at an explanation wasn’t very decent. I told her to tell them to listen to episode 41 of the Timeless Gospel podcast. I grabbed Joy who happened to be nearby and asked her what her answer might be. Hers was better.
“We need to KNOW some things - we need to know what Jesus did on the cross, why He did it, and what that means for the believer. We can know that when Christ died, I died, and Jesus took on the penalty of sin.
We must RECKON IT SO by obeying the truth of these things that we can know. We do not rebel by turning to the Law for righteous.
Then, we YEILD to the truth. We live in a way that is based on faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and our identity in His death, burial, and resurrection.”
“Ya, Joy’s was better,” I said, and then tried to come up with another answer to offer.
“You know how being a Christian you still sin, and you feel bad about it, and you think that because you are a Christian you shouldn’t sin as much as you do? (and you wait for an answer, which will more than likely be yes).
This phrase KRY is from Romans chapter 6 and it explains a different way for the Christian to view his own sin. There’s a podcast that has an entire episode where it’s explained in detail. Would you like me to send you the link?” (the saleswoman comes out…)
Do with each explanation what you will, but at least this is something you can refer to if you happen to be wearing a KRY t-shirt or hoodie, and you aren’t sure what to say when someone asks you what the heck KRY means.
I don’t know of any other preacher who puts those three powerful words together like Larry did. I’m shown over and over again how good God is in saving Larry and giving him the amazing gift of teaching His word.
